HEAD GREEN KEEPER
Mr. Michael Harris
As a young boy, Michael's Mother and Father were appointed Steward and Stewardess of Elland G.C. It was there that Michael both learned to play golf and develop a keen interest in helping out on the course.
Michael's first Green-keeping position was when he was appointed as an apprentice at Elland G.C. and commenced his formal training at Huddersfield College, gaining full qualifications in Groundsmanship and Green-keeping. Michael held positions at Outlane G.C. and Todmorden G.C. prior to taking up the position of Head Green-keeper at Halifax G.C. and will complete his 29th year in July 2019.
Ever present on the course Michael is always pleasant and approachable, his unparalleled knowledge of the course ensures the highest standards are maintained throughout the year.
It is to his credit and the dedication of the team, that Halifax G.C. is ranked 27th in the top 100 golf clubs in Yorkshire.
Mr. Tony Gerrard
A former structural engineer, Tony took to green keeping later in life and is now in his 27th year at Halifax Golf Club.
Out in all weathers he undertakes mainly the tractor mowing duties, the course when viewed especially from the 13th and 17th tees displays his talents to produce consistent diamond patterns on the fairways impressing both club members and visitors throughout the mowing season and enhances what are some of the finest views on any golf course.
In addition to his Green keeping skills Tony has been a club playing member for 40 years and is a very accomplished golfer. He was the winner of the 2015 Halifax, Huddersfield & District Union Seniors Individual Competition.
